It was the first portrayal of a lesbian love affair made in Argentina.
A rough translation of the Diario Crítica review from June 2, 1952:
A magnificent dramatic expression is given by the outstanding actress Fanny Navarro in this passage of the national film "Dishonor" in which culminates an intense and profound work animating a central character of said production, whose premiere is confirmed for tomorrow, at the Gran Rex in an extraordinary premiere. Rarely do the outstanding artistic and technical values that give singular hierarchy to "Dishonor" come together in an Argentine film, placing it among the most ambitious productions of our cinema.
The film was the costliest production made in Argentina at that time. It did so well at the local Gran Rex theater that by July, the distributor Interamericana began preparing for a US release.
A Variety blurb from July 1952 stated that the film has “considerable propaganda content implying that prison life for women in Argentina was cruel before the Peron regime, but has changed radically under his wife’s inspiration.”³
